Madurodam & Delft

Saturday the 4th of October

Victoria Hotel, Damrak 1-5

The next day trip is around the corner! This time, ISN will visit Madurodam and Delft. First we’ll visit Madurodam, which actually isn’t a city. Madurodam is a place where you can travel through the entire country in one day! It’s a very realistic miniature version of the Netherlands, where you can get a taste of the many different facets of the country. Get an impression of Madurodam here. Afterwards, we'll head to Delft. Delft is a small charming city known for the large amount of students, signature blue ceramics and the royal cemetery. We will explore Delft by playing a special game, while learning about the history of the city. You can buy tickets for this trip at our office or online! And check out the Facebook event!

Dutch Movie Night

Monday the 29th of September

Free (with ESN card)

Every month, we will show a Dutch movie for you guys at Crea. And the best part is; all of the movies are subtitled in English! Tomorrow, we will show ‘’De Heineken Ontvoering’’ which means ‘’The Heineken Kidnapping’’. This exciting movie tells the story of the amateuristic kidnapping of Freddy Heineken, the owner of the well-known beer magnate. The movie is based on a real crime, which took place way back in 1983, and of which the aftermath is still not completely over. Watch the trailer here. Intrigued? Our Dutch Movie Night is free to all ESN card holders!

Museum year pass

Sure, the Netherlands has its image spread around the world: weed, tulips, clogs, drugs, prostitutes, canals. You might have noticed by now that Amsterdam has a whole lot more to offer. Actually, the Netherlands is also one of the world leaders in the field of art and culture. There is both classical and contemporary art to enjoy in many different museums. If you are interested in visiting a couple of museums during your exchange, you should get a Museum year pass. For €54,95 a year, you are welcome to visit 440 museums all over the country for free. This is a very good deal, considering that the Rijksmuseum alone will cost you around €15. You can get a Museum year pass at different locations, such as the National Maritime Museum, the Jewish Historical Museum and the van Gogh Museum. You can find the participating museums on this website.

Student of the week:
Joanne Lin

Our first student of the week made it into the Dutch news on her first day here, quite an accomplishment. Joanne came here from Taiwan with stars in her eyes and a smile on her face. She was interviewed by a journalist from the Telegraaf, a big Dutch newspaper, and told her all she knew of the Netherlands: tall people, orange and stroopwafels. Aside from becoming a local celebrity in no time at all, Joanne is also a regular at our Borrels and an enthusiastic participant in our of all events. Odd fact: before coming to the Netherlands this Taiwanese local was unable to prepare rice, causing her friends to call her a ‘fake Asian’. This week she happily took off to Oktoberfest despite nastily twisting her ankle, like a true ISN die-hard. As if we needed another reason to love her! We hope you make a quick recovery Joanne, and trust that you will continue making our country a brighter place.
