ISN board member in the SPOTLIGHT

Maxime Schreurs

Integration Coordinator

Hello I'm Maxime, I'm a 22 year old political science student and my idea of happiness is cutting open an avocado and having it be the perfect amount of ripe.

Favorite place in Amsterdam? Since ‘I don’t have one’ would be the most boring answer I could possible give, I came up with a spot just for the sake of having people think I’m cool. I would really recommend going to The Eye at night, the view from their restaurant is pretty great. If anybody is looking to be all romantic and stuff with somebody, go there. And afterwards go to the Tolhuistuin, I feel like a very hip person when I’m there. And what’s better than that. (I live in North, can you tell?)

International Language Cafe Amsterdam

De Meevaart

Every Thursday

The International Language Cafe organizes special evenings for every international student who wants to improve their language skills, such as Dutch, English or Spanish. You can get in touch with people who speak the language you’re interested in, and maybe even help others learning your language. This is great, since communicating with natives is the best way to learn a language. A group of Dutch students will be present every time to help anyone that wants to improve their Dutch. Interested in learning languages and meeting new people? Look for more information on their Facebook page.

The best thing about working for ISN? Without a doubt the no sleeping and having a cold all the time. But knowing that what we do contributes to a lot of people having a pretty darn good time while on exchange comes in at a close second.

Favorite travel destination? Hands down San Francisco. That place is just magical. Also there is a breakfast place there that serves some French toast that should be in my belly right now. Shout out to Chicago as well because that’s kind of home base for me. Go Bulls!

Where would you like to study abroad (next) and why? ‘Murka. Because fried Oreo’s, that’s why. What’s not to love about the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Student of the Week: Sebastian Chater-Davies

This week’s special student comes from a small village in the United Kingdom, but looks like he also very well be from Jamaica with his iconic dreads. Rather than being here on a semester-long exchange, Sebastian started his studies at Amsterdam University College and is doing his 3-year bachelor’s degree here. A fervent party-goer, this young man also knows how to relax, listening to his favorite reggae records surrounded by a large group of admittedly somewhat sketchy friends. His sincerity and charm won the hearts of 2 ISN board members, including our honored president. However, his title as student of the week was secured when he treated his parents to a very special locally inspired cake when they came to visit him in Amsterdam. Fun fact: today happens to be Sebastian’s birthday. Enjoy your birthday, Sebastian, and the rest of your stay in Amsterdam!
